Point Lawn Analysis
Turf
Grass Analysis - Identify turf grass and
density. It's good to know if your lawn is warm season,
cool season, or a combination. Turf density is important
as a thick turf helps deter weeds and crabgrass.
- Color - A healthy lawn shows it's
optional color. Needed nutrients improve the color
and overall appearance of your lawn. A chemical program
is recommended.
- Soil Condition - Identifying the
soil density will help to determine if and when core
aeration is needed. Identifying the soil pH will determine
needed treatments.
- Thatch - Many problems result from
thatch, such as slow response to fertilizers, and
diseases can spread more rapidly where thatch is excessive.
- Lawn Disease - Identifying and
treating lawn disease in early stages will provide
maximum results in gaining control over the disease.
Fungicides are available.
- Weed Control - Broadleaf can spread
rapidly and quickly take over your lawn if left untreated.
Many weeds and certain grasses classified as weed
types can be very difficult to control. A Chemical
Program is recommended.
- Watering - Grass that is getting
improper watering is more prone to spare, pale turf.
Proper watering is one of the most important things
you can do for your lawns health. Your lawn needs
1 inch of water per week for maximum health.
- Shade - Knowing the amount of shade
or sun exposure of your lawn will help determine which
grass type is appropriate. Example, Bermuda will not
grow in the shade.
- Lawn Potential - All lawns are
different and depending on the amount of care, past
and present will affect the lawn's appearance. Some
lawns, no matter how hard you try, will never look
as healthy, and green as others.
- Your Lawn's Present Condition -
All lawns, even healthy ones, require regular, timely
maintenance and treatments. Ask us about our variety
of lawn maintenance packages and which will best fit
your lawn needs.
Cool
Season Turf Grass Applications
Early
spring - Early spring is when Pre and Post
emergent herbicides are applied to the turf grass
to control weeds along with fertilizer for early spring
green up of the turf.
- Late spring - Late spring is when
a fertilizer is applied to maintain color along with
a second pre and post emergent herbicide application
for weed control.
- Early summer - Early summer is
when time released fertilizer is applied to maintain
color, along with weed control applications as needed.
- Mid summer - Mid summer is when
time released fertilizer is applied to maintain color,
and promote root growth.
- Late summer - Late summer is when
lime is applied to maintain pH and prepare soil for
core aeration and overseeding.
- Fall - Fall is when a high phosphorous
fertilizer is applied to promote root growth. Aeration
and overseeding is recommended September thru October.
- Late fall - Late fall is when the
last dose of heavy fertilizer is applied to help maintain
color during the winter months. Some lawns will require
additional spot weed control applications.
- Winter - Crabgrass pre-emergent,
and a strong post-emergent are applied at this time.
This will help prevent crabgrass for the next season
and the post-emergent includes a very strong weed
control. Iron, and high nitrogen fertilizer is applied
at this time as well. Cold temperatures allow for
stronger herbicdes to be applied to control hard to
kill weeds. Applying these applications at this strength
in the summer time would be too harsh and would kill
the turf grass.
Warm Season Turf Grass Applications
- Early spring (February – March, Dormant)
- Early spring is when Pre and Post emergent herbicides
are applied to the turf grass to control weeds along
with fertilizer to promote root growth.
- Late spring (March – April, Dormant)
- Late spring is when a high nitrogen
fertilizer is applied to promote turf green up along
with a second pre and post emergent herbicide application.
- Early summer (April – May, Greening)
- Early summer is when time released fertilizer is
applied to promote color along with broadleaf weed
control as needed. We also recommend core aeration
at this time for warm season grasses.
- Mid summer (June – July, Green) -
Mid summer is when time released fertilizer
is applied to maintain color, weed control is applied
as needed for any lingering, stubborn broadleaf weeds.
- Late summer (August – September, Green)
- Late summer is when time-release fertilizer
will be applied that will help the turf stay healthy
and green during the heat of the summer months.
- Fall - (November, Waning) -In the
fall, Pre emergent and broadleaf weed control is applied
for control of weeds during winter months. Fertilizer
is also applied to promote root growth.
- Winter (December – January, Dormant)
- Winter is when Lime is applied to ensure
your lawn uses our fertilizers and treatments efficiently
and to maintain proper pH.
